Soligor Telephoto 180mm f=3,5.

I happened to get my hands on a very peculiar little lens. It's really hard to come by - a rare gem around here. There’s simply no information about it on Ukrainian websites, and on foreign ones, the only thing mentioned is that it’s not very common, but it does exist. So it’s not a rarity at all and owners are generally satisfied with it. So of course I snagged it. It caught my attention, so to speak, from two different angles.
Firstly, it looks very much like a lens I already own, namely the BV-Tele Aremac 4.5/200. 

Although they aren’t identical, they’re very closely related. You can see for yourself.


Пролітав якось повз мене такий собі цікавий об’єктивчик, та я встиг простягнути руку та схопити його. Виявилося, що це є досить нечаста в наших степах пташка. Інформації про нього на вітчизняних сайтах просто немає, а на закордонних є тільки те, що він не дуже поширений, але справді існує, зовсім не рідкість, і володарі здебільшого задоволені ним. Мене він зацікавив, так би мовити, аж з двох причин.
По-перше. Дуже він зовнішнє нагадує об’єктив, який уже в мене є, а саме - BV-Tele Aremac 4,5/200. Хоч вони й не близнюки, але дуже близькі родичі. Дивіться самі -

By the way, there’s also the Takumar 200/5.6, which looks very similar to these, but I don’t have it.
Not only do they look very similar on the outside, but they also share the same mount—the T-Mount.
It’s a bit of a tricky, not-quite-standard M42 thread. And even though it is indeed M42, you can’t just screw this lens directly onto a camera or an adapter. The thread pitch is different here, so you need another adapter to use these lenses. I have a T-Mount-to-M42 adapter, so I screw it onto the lens first, and then onto the camera adapter.
I wouldn’t be surprised if these two lenses were manufactured at the same factory.
I don't know about the BV-Tele Aremac, but it's a well-known fact that this Soligor Telephoto was manufactured at the Tokina factory.
There’s information online that it has as many as 10 aperture blades. But for some reason, I counted 15 on mine. Maybe there’s something not quite right with it.
I found this lens as a lot at a world-famous auction site and got a photo of its box from there.


До речі, є ще дуже схожий на них Takumar 200/5,6, але в мене його немає.
Крім того, що вони дуже схожі зовні, у них також однакове кріплення, а саме — T-Mount.
Це така собі хитра, не зовсім звична різьба м42. І хоч вона справді м42, прикрутити такий об’єктив відразу на камеру або адаптер не вийде. Крок різьби тут інший, тому, щоб використовувати такі лінзи, треба ще один адаптер. У мене є адаптер T-Mount-m42, тому я його накручую на такий об’єктив, а потім уже на адаптер для камери.
Припускаю, що виготовлені ці дві лінзи на одному заводі.
Не знаю, як BV-Tele Aremac, але про цей Soligor Telephoto достеменно відомо, що виготовлений він на заводі Tokina.
В інтернеті є інформація, що він має аж 10 пелюсток діафрагми. Але я у свого нарахував чомусь 15. Можливо, він не дуже правильний.
Я знайшов лот з продажу такого об’єктиву на всесвітньо відомому аукціоні та поцупив там фото коробки від нього.

I really hope the seller won't be offended that I did this. And if he is, well, so be it. By the way, it's not exactly cheap—it costs almost a hundred bucks (though you can find it for half that price). Looking closely at the box, we find a diagram of the product's optical designs.
And here comes the second reason why it caught my interest. Let’s think of popular lenses with exactly this focal length. The only one that comes to mind is the famous CZJ Sonnar 180/2.8.
There’s also a whole series of Nikkor 180mm lenses, but I don’t own any of them. The Soviet Jupiter-6 doesn’t come to mind. Because it’s a  big clunky stuff (the Sonnar is also a  big clunky stuff, but a high-quality one), so this Soviet  big clunky stuff, which the Soviets stole from the Germans, I personally consider optical junk. (Hey, just don’t get too offended, fans of Soviet lenses—it will hardly affect overall universal immense mystical love for soviet products.)

Дуже сподіваюся, що продавець не буде ображений, що я так зробив. А якщо образиться, то й нехай. До речі, ціна там на нього не копійчана, а майже сто баксів (але можна знайти й дешевше в два рази). Роздивляючись коробку, бачимо малюнок оптичної схеми цього виробу.
А тепер щодо другої причини, чому цей об'єктив мене зацікавив. Пригадаймо популярні об’єктиви саме з таким фокусним. Мені на думку спадає тільки знаменитий CZJ Sonnar 180/2,8.
Також є ще ціла низка Nikkor 180mm, але в мене їх немає. Радянський Юпітер-6 мені не згадується. Бо то радянське одоробло (Sonnar також одоробло, але якісне), яке совєти поцупили в німців, я особисто вважаю оптичним шлаком. (Не абижайтесь, любители савецких абективов, то лише моя думка. Вона навряд чи вплине на дивну, майже містичну любов Заходу до радянської продукції.).

What do we see? That the optical designs of the Sonnar and this Soligor lens are, after all, slightly different.
They’re a bit similar, yet different.

Що ми бачимо? Що оптичні схеми Sonnar та цього глиста Soligor все ж таки трохи різні. Трошки схожі, але різні.
А ось який вони мають вигляд, коли стоять поруч -

And here they are on the scales — 1374 grams for the Sonnar versus 476 grams for the Soligor. The difference of 900 grams is quite significant, even taking into account the difference in light intensity.


І ось вони на вагах — 1374 гр Sonnar проти 476 гр Solіgor. 900 грамів різниці — це вже дуже серйозно, враховуючи навіть різницю у світлосилі.

I think it's clear which 180mm lens I'd prefer to take with me on a walk. But only after thorough testing. I have to admit that the Soligor really passed its first test run.
